The Gift of Time

As the end of May approaches, many of us will be celebrating a graduation, possibly in our own family or with friends and relatives. Whether it is from Kindergarten, grade school, high school, or college, they all represent important milestones. They also serve as a reminder of just how quickly time passes by.

I have an eighth grader that will graduate in two weeks from Christ the King. He and I have spent some time together recently, going through old photographs for the slide show presentation they will have. Seeing the pictures of him and his classmates at the teddy bear picnic in Kindergarten, making their First Communion, on field trips through the years, and from the eighth grade play, stirred up many memories and funny stories.

In two years, my oldest will graduate from Memorial High School. The first two years of high school have practically flown by so I can only imagine how soon her big day will seem to arrive.

by As I think about all of these things, I am reminded of a saying that I find has a very special message. It reminds me not to get too caught up in reminiscing about the past and not to worry too much about the future. When we do either of these, sometimes we forget to enjoy what’s going on in our lives right now. Remembering to cherish time and make it special is something we can all benefit from.

          TOAST TO THE NOW
I heard some one say:
Yesterday is history
tomorrow is a mystery,
today is a gift,
and that is why
this moment is called the Present.

Listen, look, taste, touch,
breath. The Present.
