Stations of the Cross

If you are looking for a new way to reflect on the story of Christ’s death and resurrection during this season of Lent, I invite you to join the students of Christ the King School as they perform their rendition of the Stations of the Cross. Each of the classes have been taking turns presenting the Stations in a unique way. The tone is somber and as the children read their parts, a slide show on the wall in church also captures the story as it unfolds. In the photos, the students from the grade that is telling the story that week are dressed in clothes representing the time of Jesus’s life and each picture corresponds to a particular Station of the Cross. Our music teacher, Mr. Jeff Holden, plays the guitar and sings throughout the service. It is truly a moving experience to see the children of various ages tell the story of Jesus.

Our principal, Sr. Mary Karen, is the producer of these weekly presentations. She helped to dress the students and take their photos. She practiced with them to be sure they knew their parts. At each service, she takes an active role in keeping everything running smoothly and on cue. At one point she even hammers nails into wood as a sound effect of the station in which Jesus is nailed to the cross. All of her patience with the students and hard work in planning these services, make them something that I think you will find worthwhile as part of your Lenten worship.

There will be two more observances of the Stations of the Cross on Friday the 12th and Friday the 19th of March, before the start of spring break. On the 19th, the eighth grade class is planning to act out the Stations of the Cross in a play fashion, each student dressed for the specific roles. If you can come, I encourage you to do so. Each Friday the Stations of the Cross will be held at 9:15 in Christ the King Church.
