Thanks Memorial High School Class of 2010
By Jon Golding
One of the most important things we do as a parish is to provide a Catholic education and Catholic foundation for our children. Hopefully, they will go out into the world to serve God and spread His word either verbally or by example.
While it is often difficult to judge whether or not our efforts have been successful, based on personal observation, future classes of Christ the King will have very large shoes to fill in equaling or surpassing this year’s senior class at Memorial in their service to Christ the King Parish.
Since their earliest days at Christ the King, they have served the parish in numerous ways. They have raked leaves, trimmed bushes, and hauled rock and gravel. They have served Mass, lectored, sang, played instruments for us, ushered, and done anything asked of them at our Masses. They helped at the summer social and dinners at Christ the King. They helped to empty the school when it was remodeled and then to move everything back to its proper place. They also helped a great deal in remodeling the church several years ago by setting up the gym weekly for Mass and moving many of the heavier items in the church, sacristy, and choir loft. And most importantly, their smiling faces often filled the pews of the church, setting a good example for our younger members.
While we often hope we are doing the right thing in subsidizing the school, this special class demonstrates to us by their exemplary service, that our investment is sound and the right thing to do. And hopefully some day, many of them will return to leadership positions at our church and other churches in the diocese.
